about

Fornace release their second full length and it creates a stir in my ears and soul. Hopefully for the world of underground metal, this band can gain some worldwide recognition in the upcoming years.

The band follow a similar formula to their debut record. The difference here are the vocal duties that were once handled by Morrigan are now handled by leader/bassist Possessed. This band can write a lengthy song and it will never bore the listener. The opening track oozes morose, dark melodies that can create visions of death, solitude, isolation and the occult. Fornace has the ability to focus on great guitar work with some lightning fast drumming courtesy of Paul Mingoni. The track From the Darkest Meanders of our Thoughts has an old school early to mid 1990's sound reminiscent to Emperor. On the song In the Land of Tombs Where the Shadows Lie brings out a different side. The song incorporates their brand of black metal, but with some melodic guitars and slower tempos. The song Passi Solitari is a great upbeat black thrash track. Just clocking over 5:42, it's the shortest track on the record and possibly the most memorable. Awesome buzzsaw guitar work with a Viking driven rhythm section. It's the song that I feel captures the band at it's best.

Personally I see the majesty, the color and the textured depth to all this. At the same time I felt more of the same emotion from their last release. Fornace incorporates the keyboards to create a foggy grayness in the eyes.

With all of their lineup problems Fornace are still able to conquer and produce one hell of a record. I'm looking forward for many future releases from this Italian black/death metal act.
